Al wrote and directed Chalk which was produced by Kandinsky at the Bedlam Theatre in February 2005. For the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2005, he wrote and directed Enola which won the Three Weeks Editors Award and was selected for the 2006 NSDF. His third play, The Astronaut Wives' Club was performed at the Soho Theatre in August and September 2006 as a part of the National Youth Theatre's Soho Sextet, and his fourth play Radio premiered at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, before transferring to the Soho Theatre, London, and 59E59, New York City, as well as being commissoned as an Afternoon Play for BBC Radio 4. He was selected for the New Voices 24 Hour Plays at the Old Vic for which he wrote a short play, Mayfly. In April 2006, he won the Sunday Times Playwriting Award for Enola, and in December 2006, he won a Pearson Bursary for Radio. In April 2007, he won a second Sunday Times Playwriting Award for Radio. He is a young writer at the Royal Court Theatre, was on attachment at Paines Plough between 2006/2007, and is currently playwright in residence at the Finborough. Short piece of theatre include Cowboys for the RSC (Wiltons Music Hall), several pieces for Drywrite including Dance Radio (York Theatre Royal / Roundhouse) and several pieces for Nabokov. For Radio, he has adapted Radio, co-written OK Computer, and written The Postman of Good Hope all for BBC Radio 4. For Television, he was a part of the 2007 Writers Academy; is a core writer on Holby City and is the creator and executive producer of The Cut on BBC2. He is currently under commission to the Bush Theatre. He lives and works in London.
