Enola
"A fascinatingly textured play, one of the most promising that I've seen on the Fringe" |

- Lyn Gardner, The Guardian |
Winner of the Sunday Times Playwriting Award 2006
"At 08.16 on the 6th August, 1945, the Enola Gay, cruising at 26,000 feet, dropped "Little Boy" on the waking population of Hiroshima. As dawn rose over Japan, 70,000 people were vaporised under the force of a thousand suns. Enola Gay shares her name with the plane which dropped the bomb. This powerful production explores the relationship between nuclear suburbia, geometry, and the distance we perceive ourselves from Hiroshima. Al Smith's new play shows us that each one of us has a finger on the button".
On August 6th, 2005, Kandinsky presented Enola at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Since its initial run, the production transferred to the Arches Theatre in Glasgow, and is preparing to transfer to London for a run in July 2006. The show was officially selected for the 2006 National Student Drama Festival, where it won the Sunday TImes Playwriting Award, the Fest-Goers Award for Best Play, and a Commendation for Ellie Bruce's performance as Enola.
